Two minor girls kidnapped, gang raped at gunpoint in northern India

NEW DELHI, India: Two minor girls were allegedly kidnapped and gang raped at gunpoint in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

The incident took place in Jareef Nagar area of Badaun district where five men from a neighbouring village allegedly kidnapped and gang rapped two cousins late on Tuesday.

Later five accused including two brothers were arrested by the police on Wednesday, and were booked under charges of gang rape and POCSO act.

The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Badaun, Saumitra Yadav, said that the medical examination of the victims aged 12 and 13 has been conducted and its report is awaited.

In May last year, two minor girls were found hanging from tree allegedly after being gang raped in the Katra Sahadatgunj of Badaun district, leading to a nationwide furore and condemnation.

However later, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI in its probe said that the girls were neither murdered nor raped and had committed suicide.
