Heavy fighting since one month in Ali-Abad, Chardara, Imam Sahib and Gul Tepe areas on the northwestern side of the provincial capital of Kunduz have confirmed stronghold of Taliban in Kunduz.

According to sources, IS and Taliban launched a stiff offensive against Afghan security forces last month that continued for weeks and was joined by foreign fighters from Middle East.

Intelligence sources said that communication between Taliban and some religious people in Tajikistan was intercepted by Russian Armed groups posted in Tajikistan.

Meanwhile Kunduz Provincial Governor Mohammad Omer Safi claimed that foreigners who were engaged in Kunduz fight were from Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and Chechnya. However sources in Dushanbe claim they were all Arabs.

Afghan media reported that UNHCR said that more than 100,000 displaced civilians are desperately calling for humanitarian assistance.
