Developing a Self-Reliance

By Sana Haroon

Self-Reliance is a fundamental belief in yourself that you can control your life by yourself. You are truly independent when you use your abilities to live your own life or to find the solutions of your own problems.

The world is progressing extremely fast as our elders hardly recognize and accept it. The greatest gift that we can give to our new generation is to provide them opportunity of being self-made person with no bounds.

Once you become an adult, you should be capable enough to take your own decisions. You should become self-supporting for your betterment and prepare yourself for future. Idleness can lead you to depression. It often leads you to sins and damaged personality. Some people believe that they should be given facilities without having any effort.  Such sluggish and indolent attitude could ruin the community.

In the past few years, technology has taken over our lives and changed the world completely to new directions and techniques. Man with courage, audacity and self-spirit could only survive in this modern era.

If we take a look to history, we could find many examples of Self-made persons and who searched, contrived and became greatest inventors of all times.

We can’t neglect Benjamin Franklin to mention here. He was one of the founding father of United States. Over and above that, he was a famous and great polymath, author, politician and inventor. Furthermore he was postmaster, freemason, scientist, printer and civic activist.

In addition to that, Abraham Lincoln, one of the famous and well-known personalities was the 16th president of US. He once said:

“Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other”.

The famous lecturer and poet, Ralph Waldo Emerson Emphasize said:

“Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm”

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment”

“Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail”

We are educating our children to guide, instruct and to brief them about their future. But the question arises, is it a right or proper way to guide them? The way we are adopting? —and the answer is “Not really”. Aren’t we over parenting? Yes Obviously.

Being over protective about our children is now doing harm instead of Good.

We should stop bubble wrapping our kids.

Stop being over protective.

And we should let them face the reality of life once in a while. As time passes by, they become habitual of being pampered. They don’t even know how to face sudden situations and become panic in the state of severe anxiety.

In addition to above stuff, other research shows that if you give children a piece of technology or any technical equipment without any instruction, they will figure it out with a great interest and fullest potential. Instead of kill their attraction or charm towards that thing and bring their activity to an end.

Being self-reliant is not only a choice now.  It has become our need. It is a requirement of modern age. We must have a control over our future. We must develop a mentality of being independent. And build sense of responsibility.

“Aim for the highest”
