Russian and Kyrgyz armed forces ready to repel threat coming from Afghan border

Moscow, Russia: The Russian and Kyrgyz armed forces will be ready to repel to any threat in the region after complete withdrawal of ISAF forces from Afghanistan.

“In connection with withdrawal of the coalition forces from Afghanistan, the Armed Forces of Russia and Kyrgyzstan should be ready to repel any threats in the region.”

This was stated by the head of the Russian military department Army General Sergei Shoigu during a meeting with his Kyrgyz counterpart Major General Abibilla Kudayberdyev, which took place in the framework of the International military and technical forum “Army-2015”.

“Cooperation with the Kyrgyz Republic in the military field is regarded as a priority. Our cooperation is an important factor in maintaining stability in Central Asia,” said Russian Defence Minister.

“We provide support to Kyrgyzstan in the sphere of security. The armed forces of our countries must be prepared for any variant of the situation, including the negative one,” said General of the Army Sergei Shoigu.

“To do this, we consider it necessary to increase the combat capabilities of the united base of the Russian Armed Forces and Kyrghiz Armed Forces in Kyrgizia,” he stated.

Russian Defence Minister says that for realizing this goal the sides are implementing the agreement on Russian military base in Kyrgyzstan.

“Contracts for transferring to the Kyrgyz side of the modern Russian armaments and equipment, as well as their supplies are in progress”, said the Head of the Russian military department.

Sergei Shoigu reminded that institutions of higher education of the Ministry of Defence of Russia are preparing highly qualified personnel for the Armed Forces of Kyrgyzstan on a gratuitous basis.

“At the present time 316 servicemen are being trained, in 2015 we are ready to welcome over 150 people,” added Russian Minister of Defence.

He expressed his conviction that all those efforts “will allow to create a reliable potential for defence capable of countering challenges and threats to the security of our states”.

Sergei Shoigu expressed his gratitude to his colleague from Kirgizia for a warm welcome given to the Russian delegation during the Defence Minister Council in Cholpon-Ata.

The Head of the Russian military department stated that the International military and technical forum “Army-2015” gave an opportunity for discussions and exchange of views on the forward-looking engineering solutions and prospective technologies as well as their practical usage.

“This must boost the development of the military thought and strengthen the international military and technical cooperation,” said Russian Minister of Defence.

In his turn, the Head of the military department of Kirgizia thanked the Russian party for invitation to the military and technical forum “Army-2015” and a warm welcome given to the Kirghiz delegation.

Defence Minister of Kirgizia mentioned that the bilateral cooperation of the Russian and Kirgiz military department “is developing very fruitfully”. He expressed his conviction that in the future “it will be only strengthened”.
