Dushanbe, Tajikistan: Tajikistan and Russia have agreed to protect Tajik-Afghan border jointly to cope with threats posed by Afghan war.

The decision was taken during a meeting of President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and Secretary of Defense Council of Russia Nikolai Patrushev held on Wednesday in Dushanbe.

Both leaders discussed issues related with cooperation in the field of fighting terrorism, including joint patrolling and protection of Tajik-Afghan border to cope with threats posed by Afghan war.

According to a statement issued by the Presidential press service, it was stressed that in order to cope with the threats of contemporary world, address regional security challenges, strengthen the defense capacities of the Tajik forces in connection with the threat posed by Afghan, should be taken jointly. In this regard, the cooperation and coordination of the security councils of both countries was considered necessary.

At the meeting the issues related to the development of military and military-technical cooperation, strengthening the defense forces of the Armed Forces and the Border Guard of Tajikistan were discussed.

The official statement said:

Today, the meeting between President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and Secretary of Defense Council of Russia Nikolai Patrushev held at the Palace of the National Security Forces.

President Emomali Rahmon at the beginning of the meeting expressed satisfaction over the stable development of the strategic partnership between Tajikistan and Russia. The head of the state stressed stressed that strengthening cooperation in the field of security is the most important factor in the development of bilateral relations as well as other priority sectors.

Both sides discussed the issues of cooperation within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The talks also focused on other issues, including cooperation in the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The two stressed the importance of strengthening the border capacity and taking the join measures in effective fighting against the modern challenges.

The issues of development of the military and technical cooperation and strengthening of the defense capacities of the Armed Forced and the Border Troops of Tajikistan were discussed among other issues.

Following the meeting, Rahmon and Patrushev attended the joint meeting of experts of the Security Councils of the two countries.
