ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday ordered police to register murder charges against former military ruler General (retd) Pervez Musharraf in the Lal Masjid operation case, Dispatch News Desk reported.

The court directed police station house office (SHO) Aabpara to lodge first Information report (FIR).

Haroon Rashid Ghazi, son of Abdul Rashid Ghazi, former Khteeb of Lal Masjid, had submitted a contempt of court petition on Thursday against police officials for not registering case against Musharraf despite IHC order.

The Lal Masjid operation was a 2007 government crackdown on the controversial pro-Taliban mosque in Islamabad, which ended in a bloody eight-day siege killing at least 58 Pakistani troops and seminary students.
