NEW YORK: Pakistan has demanded an immediate end to US drone attacks on its territory as these are in violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and international law, Dispatch News Desk reported.

The demand was made by Pakistan’s permanent representative at the United Nations Masood Khan while commenting on a report of UN special rapporteur on human rights and counter-terrorism Emerson.

Masood Khan said Pakistan never approved drone strikes on its territory resulting in civilian casualties. He pointed out that drone strikes are in violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and international law.

Pakistan’s envoy said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also raised this issue with President Barack Obama in his recent visit to the United States.

Masood Khan said Pakistan hopes that United States would response to this urgent call and stop the drone attacks. He also urged the UN Rapporteur to make strongly recommendations to help enforce a more stringent‚ prohibitive regimen for use of drones to save civilian lives.
