System to fight corruption should be checked every institution

Islamabad, Pakistan: The statement of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen. Raheel Sharif that across-the-board accountability is necessary for the solidarity, integrity and prosperity of Pakistan represents national agenda that reemphasis the need of sustainability and continuity of process of building a better Pakistan.

A number of political governments were removed tagging as corrupt but the dream and demand of across-the-board accountability was not achieved.

Government of Nawaz Sharif welcomed the statement of the army chief as the ruling PML-N, is already waging a war against corruption and corrupt practices.

Defence Minister Kh Asif and Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed welcomed the statement of the army chief and said the government, while formulating its policies, takes all the institutions on board be it a policy against militancy or some other issues of national importance.

Solidarity, integrity and prosperity of Pakistan is possible when continuity of policies dealing with issues like corruption are ensured and all institutions of state works against corruption within their parameters and sphere of their working areas.  

These were observations of participants of one of the most popular PTV Current Affairs show “Khabar Kay Sath Sath” while discussing the address of COAS Raheel Sharif at an installation ceremony at Signal Regimental Centre, Kohat where the army chief said the ongoing war on terrorism and extremism cannot bring enduring peace and stability unless the menace of corruption is uprooted.

The show was hosted and anchored by Tariq Mehmood Chaudhary on Monday April 20 while senior journalists Rana Qaisar and Agha Iqrar Haroon were present as experts while Mazhar Khan Mughal drew live caricature in the show.

Experts were of the view that every institution must keep an eye on its working and take action against corrupt people within its system to ensure accountability. They added that corruption is eating the resources of the country and cleansing of system is needed everywhere to ensure a prosper Pakistan.

Experts added in past corruption charges were used against many political governments for their removal and only one former President sent two elected governments to home but corruption in other state institutions was not controlled because lack of a system. They were of the view that a system should be in place and nobody should be given immunity in this regard.

Lauding the statements of COAS Gen. Raheel Sharif and Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed, experts added that military and political leaderships are on one page to build a better future for generations to come and it is expected that a system would be evolve under which everyone would be accountable.
