MILAN: An Italian court on Saturday ruled that former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi should be barred from holding public office for two years after he was found guilty of tax evasion, Dispatch News Desk reported.

However, since Berlusconi is a senator, the verdict issued by the Milan court will have no immediate effect.

His expulsion from the Senate will depend on a separate vote in the upper house of parliament which is expected to take place in November.
