ICTP President Geoffrey Lipman appointed Global Environmental Advisor for the Jeju Special Self Governing  Province of South Korea

HAWAII, USA; BRUSSELS, Belgium; VICTORIA, Seychelles; BALI, Indonesia –
Professor Geoffrey Lipman, President of the International Coalition of Tourism Partners (ICTP) and Director of greenearth.travel has been appointed as a Global Environmental Advisor by Woo Keun-min, the Governor of the Jeju SpecialSelf GoverningProvince, Republic of South Korea.

The Special Self Governing Province of Jeju is a green island that abounds with treasures. Its breathtaking natural environment, its beaches with emerald water and its welcoming people have long charmed visitors and made it one of the most visited islands in the world. The Province is also famous for its clean future and high-tech industries, its wellbeing food and spas centres as well as its biological resources.

Jeju has been recognized as a World Natural Heritage, a Biosphere Reserve and a Global Geopark. It is therefore the only place in the world that completes the triple crown of UNESCO, being certified in all three natural sciences.

Over the years, Jeju has established itself as a treasure island of the global citizens and a globally recognized green environment city that epitomizes Korea’s Green Growth. Looking at the future, Jeju is still very ambitious. It intends to become the Capital of World Environment by 2020 and a carbon free island by 2030.

For years, Professor Lipman has been working with Hon Maurice Strong to make Jeju SelfGoverning Province a key component of the World Environment University initiative, and with Professor Ko Chang Hoon to put in place a unique Global Travel and Tourism University component that will focus on Green Growth.

Professor Lipman said: Jeju is an exemplary and globally recognized environmental hub. Its visionary plan for the future is both ambitious and inspiring, and I am happy to help in its achievement as a Global Environmental Advisor.

He added: ICTP, together with its newest member the Korean Tourism Organisation, is committed to support the Green Growth and Quality initiatives of Korea in general, and of Jeju, in particular.
