BERLIN: German Chancellor Angela Merkel has been forced to call off her some foreign visits and official appointments after she suffered a pelvis injury in a skiing accident in Switzerland over the Christmas holidays, her spokesman said on Monday.

The spokesman Steffen Seibert said that Merkel has postponed a visit to Warsaw scheduled for Wednesday and will not receive Luxembourg’s new Prime Minister Xavier Bettel on Thursday.

However, the spokesman said, her injuries are not thought to be serious and it is thought she will make a full recovery. He said that the chancellor is of course able to work and is in full communication.

Seibert said that Merkel will continue to lead the government and lead a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
