Dialogue with Pakistan on Kashmir will depend on circumstances: India

NEW DELHI: India said on Friday that a comprehensive and sustained dialogue with Pakistan to resolve Kashmir issue will depend on circumstances which have to be considered thoughtfully, Indian media reported.

“They must have sent an invite which will go to the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister will apply his mind. It will all depend on the circumstances which have to be considered thoughtfully,” Indian foreign minister Salman Khurshid told media persons in New Delhi in reference to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s invitation to India for peaceful resolution of Kashmir dispute through negotiations.

On Wednesday, in his address to the joint sitting of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and Kashmir Council in Muzaffarabad, Sharif invited India to engage in a comprehensive, sustained and result-oriented dialogue with Pakistan for the resolution of the Kashmir issue.

“We invite India to engage in a comprehensive sustained and result-oriented dialogue process,” Sharif said.

“Circumstances must be befitting to be revived,” Khurshid said, noting that circumstances had led India to suspend dialogue with Pakistan.

The Indian foreign minister said that though relations have improved “undoubtedly”, there is still a lot of work to be done.

“I believe my colleague Anand Sharma is going to Pakistan on trade talks. Let me see what happens,” he added.
