Crime in India’s capital increased by 43 % in 2013

NEW DELHI: The Indian capital New Delhi has witnessed a 43 percent increase in overall crime last year compared with 2012, according to annual data of Delhi Police, suggesting that the capital continues to maintain a lead with the highest crime rate among other Indian cities.

The data showed that nearly 74,000 cases were registered in 2013, up from over 51,000 last year. Likewise, offences against women like molestation have grown over 4 times and rape rose by 129 percent.

India is notorious for crimes against women, over the past few years crime in Delhi continues to be on the rise on an alarming level.

According to studies and surveys, every 20 minutes a rape is reported in India while many cases go unreported.
