China demands safety of its diplomats in US following consulate arson attack

BEIJING: In response to an arson attack on the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco, the Chinese Foreign Ministry urged the US authorities to take effective measures to protect its diplomats and its premises.

In a statement in Beijing, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said that the United States must investigate the issue as soon as possible and severely punish the culprit involved in the attack.

On Wednesday night, a person came out of a van parked in front of the main entrance of the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco, poured two buckets of gasoline onto the front door and set it on fire, causing a serious damage.
