5 soldiers killed, 4 abducted in attack by tribesmen in southern Yemen

SANAA: At least eight people including five soldiers were killed in fighting in southern Yemen between troops and tribesmen on Monday, a Yemeni military official said.

The official said that tribesmen belonging to a southern secessionist movement armed with automatic rifles and anti-tank rockets stormed the military barracks in the province of Lahj on Monday.

However, leaders of the southern secessionist movement rejected the accusation.

The military official who spoke on condition of anonymity said that the tribesmen destroyed two tanks, killed five soldiers and managed to abduct four other soldiers. He said that three tribesmen were also killed in fighting.
