QUETTA: At least 23 persons including several Shia pilgrims were killed on Sunday night in a gun and suicide attack in Taftan, a town on the Pakistan-Iran border.

The attack, which also left seven other persons injured, came when a bus carrying Pakistani pilgrims returning from Iran stopped at a restaurant.

The injured were taken to Iran for medical aid after a special request to the Iranian consulate in Quetta, the provincial home secretary Akbar Durrani said.

No militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
