16 killed as fire erupts in eastern China’s shoe factor

HANGZHOU: At least 16 persons were killed when a fire broke out in a shoe factory in Wenling City of China’s eastern Zhejiang Province on Tuesday, the local government said.

The local authorities said that the fire, which erupted in a shoe factory located in the northern part of Wenling City, burned an area of more than 800 square meters.

An initial investigation into the cause of the fire is under way.
