Fire at neurological hospital is located in the remote village of Alferovka Russia caused death of 23 people while 20 are seriously burnt but still alive. Alferovka is 230 km away from Voronezh city.
According to RT, the neurological hospital is located in the village of Alferovka, which is home to just over 700 people. At the time of the tragedy hospital had 140 patients. According to sources, at least 50 patients were chained with their beds when fire broke away.
Authorities believe that a wiring malfunction in the hospital’s electrical system might be the cause of the tragedy, reports RIA news agency.
“Among the main versions [are that it] is the faulty wiring, we are also considered a version of careless handling of fire,” a spokesman from the local emergencies ministry told RIA.
The fire broke out shortly before midnight (local time). Around 440 firefighters and emergency workers reached spot with 80 vehicles and controlled fire in three hours.
It may be mentioned that a fire at a psychiatric hospital in north-west Russia in September 2013 left 37 people dead while another blaze in April of the same year killed 38.
In 2009, 156 people were killed in a nightclub fire in the city of Perm, 1,200 kilometres east of Moscow in one of the deadliest accidents in Russia’s modern history.
