Pakistan offers training to Tajik forces to counter terrorism
Dushanbe, Tajikistan: The Chief of Pakistan Army, General Raheel Sharif, has offered training to Tajik Army to counter terrorism.
According to details, the offer was placed by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of Pakistan during his meeting with President Emomali Rahmon.
Regional situation with particular reference to common challenges of fighting terrorism and reconciliation in Afghanistan, which shares a border with both countries, came under discussion.
Tajikistan’s President appreciated Pakistan’s facilitation role in reconciliation process in Afghanistan and also lauded Pakistan Army’s phenomenal achievements in operation Zarb-e-Azb . He noted with admiration that the operation being conducted by Pakistani forces against terrorists is a role model for rest of the world.
Tajik President said that General Raheel Sharif’s visit will further cement bilateral relationship with Pakistan and provide an impetus to defence cooperation between both countries.
During the meeting, COAS said that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Tajikistan and offered Pakistan’s full support in capacity building of Tajikistan forces to counter terrorism.
COAS also held a meeting with Tajik Defence Minister and Chief of General Staff. On arrival at the Army Headquarter, COAS was accorded very warm welcome and presented guard of honour. Chief of Army Staff also visited Military Institute and Military Training Center of Tajikistan.
Tajik Defense Minister, Lieutenant-General Sherali Mirzo on February 29 in the afternoon, took the chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Pakistan, General Raheel Sharif to Military Institute of the Ministry of Defense of Tajikistan.
According to «DND» head of the press center of the Defense Ministry of Tajikistan Colonel Faridun Mahmadalizoda, during the meeting they discussed a wide range of issues of cooperation between Dushanbe and Islamabad in the military and military-technical spheres, in the training of military personnel for the Tajik national army.
Particular attention was paid to the issues of regional security, situation in Afghanistan and cooperation of the parties in the fight against terrorism and extremism.
A senior Pakistani general also visited some military units and formations of the Tajik army and get acquainted with the conditions of service and living conditions of soldiers.
