DUSHANBE: Tajikistan’s incumbent President Imomali Rakhmon has won another seven-year term as he secured 83.6 percent of the vote in Wednesday’s nation-wide presidential election, according to the preliminary, Dispatch News Desk reported on Thursday.
None of the other five candidates including Economic Reform Party’s Alim Babayev, Agrarian Party’s Talibek Buhariyev, Socialist Party’s Abduhalim Gaffarov, Democratic Party’s Saidcafar Ismanov, and Communist Party’s Ismail Talbakov, managed to gather more than five percent of the vote.
Rakhmon, 61, has been in office for more than 20 years. Following the victory in Wednesday’s election, he can lead the country until 2020.
